The thyroid is a small butterfly-shaped gland that sits behind and below the Adam’s apple. A wide range of factors from hormone imbalances to mineral deficiencies and environmental pollutants can interfere with thyroid production, leading to health problems.  Symptoms of thyroid imbalance can include:

  • Weight gain or inability to lose weight despite exercise and diet
  • Feeling cold all the time (when others don’t)
  • Low energy and stamina, especially in the evening
  • Memory lapses or slow/fuzzy thinking
  • Dry, thinning, itchy skin
  • Dry or brittle hair and nails
  • Hair loss
  • Irregular bowel habits
  • Menstrual irregularities

Antibodies can develop against the thyroid causing inflammation and interfering with thyroid function.  If you have thermography or ultrasound results that show inflammation in your thyroid, or you have never had a full thyroid evaluation, including antibodies then this package is for you.  This package provides you with a simple blood spot test you perform at home and includes testing your Thyroid Stimulating Hormone, Total T4, Free T4, Free T3, TPO Antibody and Thyroglobulin and a 45 minute consult with our Functional Medicine provider.

What to expect during your visit:

Your lab results will be reviewed with you by our Functional Medicine provider where she will explain in detail what your current lab values mean and will provide you with a personalized strategy to optimize your thyroid levels and address your symptoms.  During your visit with our provider, she will ask you detailed questions about your symptoms, lifestyle, diet, activity and stress levels.  Please bring a 3 day food journal to your appointment. Learn more about the approach by reading Thyroid 101

You may choose to continue to follow up with our provider to manage your thyroid condition and medication.  We make lifestyle and diet recommendations and prescribe supplements, conventional thyroid medication, compounded thyroid medication, desiccated thyroid (such as Armour, NP Thyroid, Naturethroid, etc)

You will be sent an email to register for our online portal where you will be asked to update your profile including current medications, supplements, allergies and past medical history.  Please complete this information at least 24 hours prior to your visit.

Important note about doing your lab test at home:

If you currently take thyroid medications or supplements, please hold your medication the morning you take your test.  You may take your medication immediately after taking your test.
